Welcome to Avila Hot Springs!

Discovered in 1907 by at the time unlucky oil drillers and established by the Budan family as a popular visitor-serving natural artesian mineral hot springs oasis at the gateway to Avila Beach and Port-San Luis Harbor. Historic Avila Hot Springs offers today's visitors cabin camping and dry tent camping,  - all just 2 miles from the beaches and next to the Bob Jones Bike Trail. All year long, Avila's protected southerly location offers some of the best weather on the Central Coast.

Come kick back, and beat the heat relaxing in the shade of the palm trees and ocean breezes. Enjoy all the funky fun and convenience Avila Hot Springs is known for, including group picnic and BBQ facilities, heated freshwater pool with double slides, hot mineral soaking pool, massage therapy, and Wally's Bike Rentals with access to bike trails. Our large outdoor fresh water heated pool with its sunny deck and great weather all year long is open to the public and is popular with our locals and visitors alike. For your comfort and safety, an ADA compliant pool lift is available for use.

Private and group swimming lessons are offered throughout the year and are regularly scheduled during the spring and summer. All classes are taught by Red Cross Certified Lifeguards.

Soak In Our Relaxing Hot Springs Mineral Pool

Our old-fashioned 20' x 20' therapeutic hot mineral soaking pool is approximately 2 ft. deep and 104 degrees and draws it's constant flow up from the natural artesian well beneath Avila Hot Springs.

Avila Hot Springs' source of mineral water is a geothermal spring emanating from deep within the earth's mantle, brought to the surface by our artesian well, which allows the precious water to flow up to us without pumping at about 130-135 degrees, where it is cooled with a little fresh water to about 104 degrees in our hot pool. The flow of our spring has remained constant for over 100 years.

According to his book "Pure Water" by Dr. Casey Adams, ( D.O., p.h.D) , thermal mineral springs pools have been used therapeutically for thousands of years and are mentioned as useful for healing many ailments in his "Use of Liquids" treatise by Hippocrates. These local waters were revered by the local Salinan Indians who bathed in them for relief from injuries and ailments.

The Bob Jones Trail starts at the parking lot and is a paved trail down to Avila Beach

The Bob Jones Trail is the City to the Sea bike trail that follows the Pacific Coast Railroad right-of-way along the San Luis Obispo Creek to Avila Beach. Starts at the parking lot right off the 101 freeway by Avila Hot Springs Resort and ends near the beach in downtown Avila. This trail is great for walking, jogging, skating, biking, etc. The trail offers so much to look at, filled with nature and activity all around. There is a cute restaurant on the trail, which offers great food and wine. The trail travels along a golf course and a bridge that crosses the water. It ends at the beach/promenade in downtown Avila Beach. Here at Bob Jones Trail, you will learn the history of it and what is going on around it.
