Avila Hot Springs offers a warm welcome as the gateway to Avila Beach, located just off Highway 101. The open to the public facility was founded in 1907 when oil drillers in the area hit the natural hot spring instead, capped it and formed a mineral water swimming pool on the site. More than 100 years later the still vital site offers an Olympic-sized freshwater heated swimming pool with double slide, and a separate, old-fashioned 20' x 20' hot mineral soaking pool. The spa is open to the public seven days a week and also offers RV, cabin and tent camping, swimming, aqua aerobics and lifeguarding lessons, and a game arcade. There is an onsite restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room or poolside. Group and private events such as birthday parties and youth sports groups are a specialty. Avila Beach's back roads lead right past Avila Hot Springs to See Canyon and the Avila Valley Barn, where visitors can sample fresh summer produce, along with fresh baked goods and pressed cider. Nearby San Luis Obispo's Thursday night Farmer's Market and the Friday Night Summer Avila Farmer's Market are some of California's best open-air affairs. Avila Hot Springs is open daily except Christmas.
